When City meets Country

We did the whole Tourist Thing this weekend and what fun we had!

We started with a little winery that didn't open as early as we would have liked (we would have had to wait around for quite a while). They had a really nice vineyard, but we would have to come back to see the store.

On the way out we saw a sign for Calasanti's greenhouses and on a whim went in.

That was actually a really fun decision. We wandered through the vast greenhouses (I was actually more interested in how the mechanics of the greenhouse than the plants (which they had lots of!)) and then came across an arcade and country store.

They had 87 different kinds of fudge in the display case (and rock candy and penny candy and chocolate dipped cookies and chocolate truffles!) The girl who was working there said they pretty much had every kind of chocolate available!

We took some Peanut Butter Chocolate fudge and were on our way.

The next stop was Viewpoint Estate Winery.

Wow.

We were impressed from the time that we parked our car to the time we pulled out of the parking lot.

We were able to see a huge steam tower pretty much over the horizon across the water. It turned out to be the Nuclear Power Plant in Ohio. Very cool.

Our tour guide, Amy, showed us the Islands (Pelee, Put in Bay, something-Sister-something, etc) I was sort of paying attention.

We chatted with Amy about a bunch of stuff and I told her our Cabernet Sauvignon story (ask me sometime if you haven't heard it – it doesn't take as long to tell as my Coconut story).

Then we tasted some of the best wine I've had so far.

It was tough to choose between the 2004 CabSav and the 2001 Cab Merlot. Normally I prefer CabSav to Cab Merlot, but the 2001 vintage had been barrel aged for 28 months before bottling. It was their first vintage as a winery and it was an incredible flagship wine. I bought one bottle of the Cab Sav and three of the Cab Merlot.

I have a feeling that as long as the tour includes Viewpoint Estate Wineries it is Bound to Please.
