Wow. Our place is really built!
Dan (the furnace guy) had to cut through the floor to install a cold air return and a new lead upstairs to the Southern Comfort Suite (we still haven't really named it yet, so don't get attached to the name – it's the only suite that faces South). We're combining the Yellow Room with the Wardrobe Room and making one 10x20 bedroom out of it. That'll be nice.
However, neither of the two rooms had a vent for warm/cool air. Yikes! So we had Dan put in a new lead into the room and he says that the furnace needs more air to suck so that it can blow more (or something like that) so we installed a cold air return upstairs too.
When Dan cut through the floor I was AMAZED at how think the hardwood flooring is.
(Just a quick aside – I've seen engineered hardwood at the stores. They take a thin, thin, thin strip of hardwood (2 to 3mm) and glue it to compressed sawdust. Then you install these strips really close together and no one knows that your real floor is only a couple of mils think. They do this to save money). So, either wood was cheaper 120 years ago or the guy that built this place was RICH.
Our floors are easily two inches thick! This place will still be here 120 years from now – which makes me realize how small a part I'm going to play in this house's lifetime…
In other news Cathy was out of town last night. Maybe this weekend will work out – she won't be getting her kitchen finished for a bit – the guy is
just finished tearing everything out.
I mentioned yesterday that we were rained out of our concrete prep work – here's a picture of me just before it rained.
Doing everything just right so that you have a comfortable stay here is Bound To Please!
P.S. I don't usually link off site, but a good friend of ours just launched a business that she helped found (it wasn't lost, she made it out of nothing!)
